Andhra Pradesh's Leap Towards a Green Hydrogen Hub
Key Ideas
  • Andhra Pradesh signed MoUs worth ₹51,000 crore in clean energy investments at the Green Hydrogen Summit to boost renewable energy capacity.
  • Yamna plans a ₹16,000 crore green ammonia facility in Krishnapatnam, contributing to India's cleaner fuel transition and state's industrial growth.
  • JKSH Green Power and Hynfra will invest ₹35,000 crore in a clean energy project in Machilipatnam to produce green hydrogen and ammonia, strengthening India's green energy supply chain.
  • The state's strategic investments aim to establish Andhra Pradesh as a 'Hydrogen Valley' and attract foreign capital to accelerate its sustainable energy goals.
The Andhra Pradesh government marked a significant milestone by signing Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) valued at ₹51,000 crore in clean energy investments. These agreements were formalized during the Green Hydrogen Summit held at SRM University in Amaravati. The state's concerted effort towards expanding its renewable energy capacity is evident through these MoUs, reinforcing its vision to emerge as a green hydrogen hub. One of the prominent projects announced is the green ammonia facility in Krishnapatnam by UK-based Yamna, with an investment of ₹16,000 crore to establish a one million tons per annum (mmtpa) capacity. This initiative not only supports the state's industrial ecosystem but also aligns with India's shift towards cleaner fuels. Additionally, JKSH Green Power and Hynfra are set to jointly invest ₹35,000 crore in a large-scale clean energy project in Machilipatnam. The venture aims to produce 150 kilotons per annum (ktpa) of green hydrogen and 600 ktpa of green ammonia, which will play a pivotal role in fortifying India's green energy supply chain. These strategic investments signify Andhra Pradesh's proactive approach to attract international investments and expedite its clean energy aspirations. The state's focus on nurturing large-scale hydrogen and ammonia projects underscores its ambition to attain 'Hydrogen Valley' status and contribute significantly to India's sustainable energy trajectory.
