Hyundai Motor India Ltd has joined forces with Indian Oil Corporation Ltd to explore the viability of mass-using hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in India. As part of this collaboration, Hyundai has provided a Hyundai NEXO Hydrogen FCEV to Indian Oil for real-world tests on Indian roads, with a focus on evaluating performance over a 40,000 km distance. The partnership will also involve a Total Cost of Ownership assessment to understand the long-term economic and environmental advantages of hydrogen-powered vehicles in the Indian market. HMIL Managing Director Unsoo Kim highlighted the ambition to combine world-class hydrogen fuel cell technology with Indian expertise to make green hydrogen accessible, affordable, and sustainable. Indian Oil Corporation's Director (R&D) and Board Member Alok Sharma emphasized the importance of hydrogen fuel in India's clean energy roadmap and the potential of fuel cell technology in achieving net carbon neutrality. The partnership between Hyundai and Indian Oil aims to drive studies in fuel cell technology and contribute to building a greener mobility ecosystem. In addition to this collaboration, HMIL is also establishing a 'Hydrogen Innovation Centre' in partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, providing a platform for startups and OEMs to test their components in line with their holistic hydrogen mobility goals.
